Guus Hiddink is insane

By: Paul | January 26th, 2009

The coach of the Russian National team Guus Hiddink has completely fell off of his rocker when he proclaimed that criminal, diver, scouse legend Steven Gerrard is better than Cristiano Ronaldo. I’ll let you digest that, Steven Gerrard > Cristiano Ronaldo. Ok now that I’ve thought about that I’ll justify it with a LOL. Here is the quote in full

“Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard, Lionel Messi or Xavi from Barcelona deserved the award more,” he told the Mirror. “Ronaldo is only focused on finishing in front of goal.

“I love Gerrard’s qualities as a player and a leader. Technically and tactically he is the best. His passion is enormous, he means as much for a great team as George Best.

I love Guus Hiddink as a manager, he was my number 1 choice to be the United States manager even over Jurgen Klinsman but his player ratings are a little off. Steven Gerrard has an extremely powerful shot, what other attributes can I name off of the top of my head, zero. He’s famous because he’s English, scores a few screamers, and plays for Liverpool.

I’ll leave you with my new favorite youtube video

same thing can be said about Ronaldo, as a player i believe Gerrard/Messi/Kaka are better and they make their teams much better than Ronaldo does.

but i would still give the award to Ronaldo because he accomplished A LOT more than all those players did in 2008.

Hiddink is right. Ronaldo is usually crap in big games. And I cant remember any memorable stuff he has done, unlike Ronaldinho,Kaka,Gerrard or Messi.

oh and ranjeet, im surprised you can’t remember anything he has done. he only scored 42 goals last year. no big deal he is only a midfielder. and he has only won just about every single individual award you can possibly win in a season. but that must not be a big deal either…

He shouldn’t really be considered a midfielder when he doesn’t cross the half way line to play defense. Also, after his one goal in the final, he was very quiet for the rest of the game. Then he missed the PK and almost cost his team the win.

Lol, I love the justification for hating Ronaldo…

“he’s not a true midfielder” – so what? he’s actually listed as an attacking winger and FYI Man U has given up the fewest goals out of any EPL team recently so he hasn’t really hindered them

you can go on to say he CANT be the best player in the world if he doesn’t track back, but can you name another player who deserved it?

i mean, honestly…not “if he wasn’t injured” or “if he was as selfish as Ronaldo he would be”

the award isn’t given on potential or “ifs”

its awarded based on who was the best over the last year…not the best ever, not who CAN be the best, but who WAS the best for that year

    no one else came close
